Blessing of Civil Marriages and Renewal of Wedding Vows

 

While there are no liturgies provided in the Prayer Book for the blessing of a couple who have been married in a civil ceremony, it is a long-standing custom of the church to offer prayers for the blessing of people who wish to renew their marriage vows or seek God's blessing on a marriage that was performed in a civil context or in another jurisdiction.

 

This sometimes happens in the context of the Sunday morning service, or else in a private service at another time.
